I’m a physician who also builds software.
I’m Raphael Alogou. I work as a general practitioner at the Ouémé Departmental University Hospital in Porto-Novo, and as a software engineer at Health Data Acumen, a company based in Nairobi. I am also a research fellow at the Holo Global Health Research Institute.
Software came first. In 2015, a year before I started medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Cotonou, I began learning C++ to make my own video games. What I found was bigger: a computer will build almost anything you can describe precisely enough. I moved on to web apps without giving up systems programming, and tried a bit of everything along the way: web apps, libraries, a programming language, a virtual machine for a CPU with a compiler to its binary code, Android apps.
I graduated in 2024. I have written software professionally since 2023, and on my own time I build small products as an indie hacker, some of them with friends.
The two meet in what I make. e-Dotoxwe brings hospital prices and health information to people in Benin, and SymphEase helps run scientific conferences. I am now going deeper into research and digital health, especially turning what data shows into care that works in the real world, with AI or without it.
This site collects my projects, a few thoughts and my resume. If you want to talk about any of it, write to me.
